Colostomy Information and Stomico Ostomy Pliers
A colostomy is a surgically created opening in the abdominal wall into the large intestine or colon. A colostomy can occur at any point along the length of the colon. It is performed for cancer of the colon, benign obstructive tumors, and severe abdominal injuries. There are six main types of colostomies: Sigmoid, Transverse loop, Transverse double-barrel, Cecostomy, Ascending, and Descending.
Maintenance of a colostomy requires the use of an ostomy appliance. The new Stomico Ostomy Pliers are designed to assist with both one and two-piece appliances. One component is known as the bag or pouch. The other is a skin barrier/wafer.
The Stomico Ostomy Pliers are ergonomically designed and eliminate exposure to the inherent carpal tunnel and tendonitis risks associated with the repetitive motion of scissors and are easy to use by arthritis sufferers. With practice of just 1 or 2 times, it only takes seconds to punch a clean, consistent hole in the ostomy appliance.
The Stomico Ostomy Pliers allows the purchase of the most economical skin barriers/wafers.
